Naxalism a threat to India
On 16th May 2010 there is another deadliest Naxalist attack in Dantewada where more than 40 were killed including cops. Naxalism has been troubling Indian government for over four decades killing more than 10,000 people. The gravity of the problem can be understood where 16 out of 28 states are baffling with local terrorism. Majority of them are the poorer states. In fact Indian prime minister called this a major threat to country’s security.
The reasons for uprising insurgency is the process of economic liberalization of the government where the rights of underprivileged, untouchables and marginalized people have been violated by taking land from them in the name of development by transnational corporations and industrialist ,the trials whom land pieces of land were taken still deprived for the rehabilitation. Grinding poverty is the root cause for new incumbent to join naxalism.
Bahukutumbi Raman, a former head of the counter-terrorism division of India's external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing, said "There are two Indias. The dazzling India which we see every day on our TV channels, in the spins of our political leaders and in the writings of our so-called strategic analysts. But there is another India which we rarely see or write about. This is the India of grinding retreated like chattels and domestic animals by the upper caste political leaders, landlords and forest contractors... It is this India coming out from under the carpet, which is flocking to the banners of the Maoist ideologues."
Naxalism is a major stumbling block for India to become a developed nation which may pose a threat to stability and sovereignty of the nation and may also discourage foreign investors to invest in India.
The government has to rethink its economic policy make it more people oriented or changing the face of the majority of people of the country. The government has to increase the dialogue with rebels and root out the problems which are own people rather than going for military action.
